Hand and Wrist Pain| Advanced Ambulatory Surgery Center
At the Advanced Ambulatory Surgery Center of Altamonte Springs, we specialize in minimally invasive procedures. It is our mission at AASC to bring conveniently, quality, and affordable healthcare solutions using the latest in research and technology.
Are you or a loved one experiencing hand or wrist pain? Hand or wrist procedures can be performed for a variety of reasons – due to the lack of functionality and mobility of the hand and wrists.
An injury could result from overuse, sprains, broken/fractured bones, arthritis, or carpal tunnel syndrome. Depending on the severity of the pain or injury, medical assistance may or may not be required and with proper healing or rest could be resolved on its own.
Overuse can look like repetitive stress on the hand or wrist. This could result from playing sport strenuous on the hands such as tennis or golf.
However, repetitive stress can also be caused by everyday activities such as texting and using technology with your hands. In a study done by the University of California Los Angeles, it is proven that texting can lead to arthritis and the thumb is more commonly used (6 hours per day) than other parts of your body.
Some of the various procedures we offer at AASC for hand and wrist pain include:
Wrist Fusion – Surgery to fuse the bones in the wrist alleviates the pain of the bones rubbing together
Wrist Replacement – Surgery is done to alleviate arthritis pain when other alternatives do not work, replaces the radiocarpal joint
Joint Replacement – Remove damaged joints and replace them with metal or plastic to alleviate pain
Finger Joint Fusion – Procedure is done to remove the damaged tissue, including the worn cartilage, and fuse them together until they grow together
Carpal Tunnel Release – Surgery is done to alleviate carpal tunnel pain by cutting through the ligaments in the hand
It is important to prioritize the health of your bones and joints to avoid experiencing hand and wrist pain or worsening injuries. You can strengthen your bones by increasing your calcium intake and by using protective gear when you are playing intense sports or performing strenuous activities with your hands.
Hand and wrist pain can also mean ganglion cysts, gout, tendinitis, or lupus. Understanding the type of injury or disease can help you recover more smoothly.
If your pain does not improve after treatment you should see a doctor determine the best pain management plan given your history and symptoms.
